About Us
Conyers was originally established in 1886 as a garage before it turned to servicing the local field sports enthusiasts. Gunsmithing, servicing and repairing were partnered with coarse, sea and fly fishing to provide the perfect high street retreat for the sportsman in search of advice or accessories.
This tradition is still carried on today with a wide range of goods from hooks to waders, hats to tweed suits. Both the beginner and the more demanding client will feel at home in this historical shop and have the choices that technology has brought but with the service of yesterday.

Fishing
The picture is a locally caught chub, found on the Stour in Blandford which is part of a syndicate run by Cyril Gordon. Blandford Angling club has beats of water either side of Blandford running up stream to Durweston and down stream to Charlton Marshall, on these water's a good selection of coarse fish can be caught, and there are some large pike to be had in the winter months.
We hold a range of baits from ground bait, boilies, popup boilies, maggots and worms and also a range of frozen baits for sea fishing and dead baiting on the river.
We sell tickets for Blandford and Sturminster Newton and for Conyers water which is at Spetisbury, both day, night, and season tickets. There are also game fishing lakes locally.
Brian who works in the shop, has fished locally on the river for most of his life, and takes part in Match Sea fishing on the local coast. Cyril, who has worked for the business for 60 years, and fish the Stour for the best part of his life, is available for advice and help on all aspects of the local under water life.

Gunsmithing
At Conyers we have our own onsite gunsmith with 60yrs experience in the shooting and fishing industry. Cyril Gordon is a well respected knowledge of all guns and actions from percussion cap pistols to the newest Purdey, having been involved in the production of Arthur Conyers very affordable guns of which most parts where made on site and then assembled.
Cyril took over from Jeff spearing and has run the workshop since. He is on site everyday and is always keen to look at new and old guns out of interest, and will talk clients through the work needed on there own guns.
For any large jobs that Cyril cannot handle we use a local gunsmith who served his apprenticeship with Holland and Holland of London. From servicing to full rebuild and blueing of barrels, all is carried out with old fashioned precision, and cost. |
